ANNOUNCEMENT from Mikaela
21/20/20

It has been a wonderful six years of working with clients from all over Australia and guiding them on their path towards optimal health.

During that time, we’ve also grown from a family of three to a family of five, moved interstate, lived in three different houses, travelled overseas as a family, continued to work on our own health and well-being, and upskilled in a number of other side-hustles and passions.

Health, wellness, and food will always remain passions of mine, however I’ve now found myself in a place where one of my other lifelong pursuits, music, has grown to the point where it takes up the majority of my energy, work hours, and income. So it is with bittersweetness that I’ve decided to move into the next chapter of my life by closing down Own Health at the end of 2020.

I’d like to say a big thank you to all of my clients who have invited me into their lives and asked me to be a part of their health journeys over the years - it has been an honour and a privilege to work with you all. And please do stay in touch!

I hope that everyone is doing well after what has been a strange and stressful year. Best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas, and may 2021 be a better year for us all.

Mikaela x

Naturopathy is a gentle, safe, holistic modality of health care that utilises a range of therapies, with an underlying philosophy that the body is capable of healing itself when given the right 'building blocks' to do so.

Whilst conventional medicine generally focuses upon diagnosing and masking the symptoms of a disease or condition, naturopathy seeks to prevent disease from occurring in the first place, whilst also looking for and addressing the underlying cause(s) of any existing health troubles. Environmental and nutritional factors are taken into consideration, and the body is treated as a whole, providing both immediate relief from ailments as well as lifelong solutions
to improve overall health and longevity.

At Own Health, Mikaela's naturopathy services focus upon the use of evidence-based nutrition and herbal medicine to support the appropriate biochemical pathways, optimise epigenetic expression, and foster the body's innate ability to heal and thrive.

High quality practitioner-only supplements are prescribed when necessary, but Mikaela's primary focus is to guide you in adjusting your diet and lifestyle so that supplementation is only required as a short-term 'boost', rather than being a life-long necessity for achieving and maintaining optimal health.

Mikaela is a member of the Australian Naturopathic Practitioners Association, which ensures that she has undergone appropriate training and complies with the highest standards of practice.

Your Initial Consultation - $180

Prior to your initial consultation, you will be required to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire that involves an in-depth series of questions regarding your medical history since birth, as well as questions about your past and current diet and lifestyle and your current health goals. This is to be emailed back to Mikaela along with copies of any relevant pathology test results.

The consultation itself will be between 1 - 1.5 hours in length, in order to provide you with the most appropriate individualised care. Your initial consultation will allow ample time for you to explain the reason(s) for your appointment and to discuss your personal health goals in detail. Arrangements for functional pathology testing will also be made if deemed necessary.

Functional tests may involve blood, saliva, urine, or faecal specimens, and can usually be undertaken in the privacy of your own home with a kit that will be mailed directly to you. Please note that functional pathology testing will attract additional fees, but you will always be made aware of the cost before any test kits are ordered.

Once the results from any functional tests have been received, Mikaela will put together a detailed individualised treatment plan for you. A case review consultation will then be scheduled so that your treatment protocol can be explained and discussed.

PLEASE NOTE: The fee for your case review consultation will be added to your initial consultation invoice, as it is our policy that case review consultations are prepaid. This is to cover the cost of the many hours it takes for Mikaela to put together your individualised treatment protocol in preparation for your case review consultation.

Your Case Review Consultation & Treatment Plan Document Pack - $180

The purpose of your case review consultation is to give you a clear explanation of your initial treatment plan and expected outcomes.

Treatment plans can vary greatly depending upon your own personal health concerns, goals, and preferences, and can range from simple dietary changes to more complex prescriptions of herbs and nutritional medicines.

Prior to your case review consultation, you will be emailed a detailed document pack with step-by-step instructions to follow, including the following:
  • A list of the key goals of your treatment plan
  • Expected timeframes for these goals to be achieved
  • An explanation of any test results and their relevance to your treatment plan
  • Recommended timeframes for re-testing
  • Specific dietary advice, tailored to your individual health needs and personal food preferences, with clear information regarding which foods to include in your diet and which foods to avoid (and why)
  • A one-week example meal plan (valued at $40), incorporating the above dietary advice
  • A list of lifestyle recommendations
  • A prescription sheet with clear instructions regarding any prescribed nutritional/herbal medicines, including details about specific brands and dosages
  • An explanation of the rationale behind any prescribed nutritional and herbal medicines
  • A list of recommended resources specific to your health goals

Only the highest quality practitioner-only brands of nutritional and herbal medicines are prescribed, most of which are unavailable for over-the-counter purchase. Being so high in quality, these natural medicines can play a significant role in enhancing treatment outcomes.

In order for you to gain access to any products that have been prescribed for you, an account will be set up for you at www.vital.ly following your case review consultation.

Follow Up Consultations - $110

Follow up consultations are 30 - 45 minutes in length, allowing time to discuss how you are going with your treatment plan, answer any further questions that you may have, and to arrange any necessary re-testing in order to ascertain if the desired biochemical improvements are occurring.

With each follow-up consultation, your individualised treatment plan and any prescribed natural medicines are continuously assessed and modified where necessary.

Mikaela will usually see clients more regularly initially, followed by less-regular appointments (usually on a monthly or bi-monthly basis) until the client's health has stabilised. Clients then tend to seek treatment as they deem necessary in order to maintain long-term vitality and wellbeing.
